Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)
Importance of EDC:
The success of a nation relies on her prosperity which is achieved through a dynamic entrepreneurial cloud. In view of this, SSMIET has pre-empted by initiating an entrepreneurial venture to potential and determined businessmen and women.
Entrepreneurial drive is important for all the professionals while they are employed in MNCs, large business houses, and emerging industries. Companies believe in entrepreneurship qualities of a candidate to demonstrate skills within the organization for the growth of the company in all aspects, which is a need of the hour. Entrepreneurship in approach and professionalism in style of working alone can enhance the position in future.
Developing entrepreneurship skills will enhance or assess the following qualities: Business mindset, Self-worth, ability to control one’s own life, Self-awareness, Self-management and personality, transfer of learning, motivation, teamwork, interpersonal communications, problem-solving, creativity and vision to succeed.
To inculcate entrepreneurship qualities, motivate them to become entrepreneurs, create entrepreneurial engineering professionals in the campus; we have set up “Entrepreneurship Development Cell” at our institution during March 2014. Innumerable training sessions, simulations, guest visits and mentoring would be the prime agenda of the EDC. The Cell is managed by faculty members of SSMIET.
Regarding entrepreneurship as a career option, the main objective of EDC is to create awareness among the students and educate the unemployed youth of south India. It also aims at conducting training programmes and guest lecturers for skill development, entrepreneurship-related courses to be incorporated in management and engineering programs and also to provide guidance and facilities to entrepreneurs during gestation for the first time.
The EDC cell organizes Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes and Faculty Development Programmes in the region by conducting research work and survey to identify entrepreneurial opportunities. We also guide and assist prospective entrepreneurs on various aspects such as preparing project reports, obtaining project approvals, loans and facilities from agencies of support systems and information on various technologies. For the benefit of students, we organize guest lectures, seminars etc., for promotion and growth of entrepreneurship.
